Kevin B. Blackistone’s heartbreaking Oct. 7 Sports column, “A century after his death, Trice’s legacy still echoes,” recounted the story of Jack Trice, the first Black football player at Iowa State, who died after a particularly violent football game in Minnesota. The wretched ignorance and brutality are infuriating.
I ached for Trice’s poor family, who saw him go so far from home, and for his young wife, bereaved in Iowa.
