Dame Emma Thompson DBE is a British actress who has received various accolades throughout her career spanning four decades, including two Academy Awards, and two British Academy Film Awards.

Emma Thompson was born in London on April 15, 1959, into a family of actors.

Her mother is Phyllida Ann Law OBE, an actress, known for her numerous roles in film and television. During her career, she made numerous appearances including in Dixon of Dock Green, and Rumpole of the Bailey.

She also appeared in the 1972 adaptation of the Lord Peter Wimsey tale The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club.

Her father was actor, scriptwriter, and stage director, Eric Norman Thompson. He was best known for creating and performing the English narration for The Magic Roundabout.

As a result of overwork and heavy smoking, he had a heart attack in 1967. Due to this, he changed his focus to directing. Sadly, on November 30, 1982, he died of a heart attack in London.
